Erlangen im Quadrat²

The Huguenot city with its quirks, idiosyncrasies – and a wealth of history

Date: October 14th, 2026

Time: 14:00 to 15:30

Imagine: 1686. Families leave their homes – fearing persecution. Over 1.000 of these religious refugees reach Erlangen. What do they find? Hope.

A visionary margrave not only gives them security, but an entire city – planned on the drawing board, open to new ideas: the baroque “Christian Erlang”.
And this spirit lives on to this day. Where Huguenots once built their future, research, development, and study now take place. The Friedrich-Alexander University attracts talent from all over the world – and Siemens has been driving technology and innovation for generations.

Erlangen is a city that gives space to ideas – then as now. Discover how a refuge became a city full of life, knowledge, and change.
