As World War II drew to a close, the streets of Erlangen, too, were gripped by fear and uncertainty. The ultimatum from the advancing Americans was unequivocal – the city stood on the brink of total annihilation.

In this hour of greatest danger, two men bravely step forward. Mayor Dr. Herbert Ohly and Lieutenant Colonel Werner Lorleberg make a risky decision to avert impending doom. Their actions save Erlangen – and ultimately cost Lorleberg his life.
