People also chill out on the Erlangen Castle Beach, against the stunning backdrop of the Margrave Castle. At the Margrave Theater, history meets modernity; the oldest operating Baroque theater in southern Germany (built between 1715 and 1718) presents classics and numerous world premieres. Every year, Erlangen Autumn offers an extraordinary shopping experience with live music and exciting activities for the whole family. To round off the year, we cordially invite you to visit our three Christmas markets, which bathe the city in festive lights. The ever-popular Erlangen like on Ice-area on the Schlossplatz invites you to ice skate and offers 400 m² enough space to do laps or even pirouettes.

The summer begins with an absolute event highlight: The most well-known in the region, if not throughout Germany, is our Erlangen Bergkirchweih, where traditional beer celebrations have been held every Whitsun since 1755. For ten days, our guests toast with beer mugs on the - as it is affectionately called - "Berch" in one of the many cellars. This delights not only the Erlangen residents, but also many former Erlangen residents who pay us a visit for this very festival. Another well-known event that always delights many visitors is the International Comic SalonThis is one of the largest and most important events for comic art and graphic literature and takes place every two years. It is also a large and renowned literary festival. Erlangen Poets' Festival, which takes place every year at the end of August.
