Erlangen district: Tennenlohe

Until its incorporation in 1972, Tennenlohe was an independent municipality within the Erlangen district. As early as 1472, a Primissarius (priest) was active here. This is the Latin term for a Catholic priest who was obligated to celebrate Holy Mass early in the morning before the residents went to work. Tennenlohe is located in the northern part of the Knoblauchsland region, the historically significant Old Franconian cultural landscape, in the middle of the Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen triangle. Today, the district has approximately 4.300 residents.

Nature lovers will get their money’s worth here: North of Tennenlohe stretches the Brucker Lache forest area to the Erlangen city centre and to the Bruck district. Here is also the “Forest Adventure Center Tennenlohe”It is one of five forest experience centers run by the Bavarian Forestry Administration. With the mission of implementing legally enshrined forest education for all population groups, it provides valuable information and experiences related to forests and forestry.

To the east, the nature reserve Tennenloher Forest as a recreational area for hiking and cycling. Nuremberg, Bavaria's second-largest city, is only ten kilometers away.
