From the July 14-18, 2025 Erlangen will host Bavaria’s largest inclusive sporting event: the Special Olympics State Games 2025, over 1.400 athletes Athletes with intellectual and multiple disabilities compete in 20 sports – supported by Unified partners without disabilities, coaching teams, and hundreds of volunteers. Together, they set a strong example for diversity, respect, and sporting solidarity.

Strong together – the motto of the state games
People with and without disabilities meet on equal terms – in the stadium, during participatory activities, or at celebrations. Delegations from all over Germany as well as guests from Italy, Austria, Poland and the SwitzerlandThe Special Olympics State Games turn Erlangen into Bavaria's inclusive sports capital for five days.
A celebration of encounters
In addition to the competitions, a diverse Side events:
- An atmospheric opening ceremony on the cultural island Wöhrmühle
- Disco evenings for all participants
- An evening for families
- The “Healthy Athletes®” health program with tips for a healthy lifestyle
- An open participation offer for school classes, daycare centers and all guests

The supporting program begins in May with the Exhibition “Strong Together!” in the Erlangen City Library (23 May to 22 July 2025) and a Health day for all in Kreuz+Quer (May 13, 2025). In July, the ceremonial torch relay (July 10, 2025) and the start of a special sports week full of emotions, achievements and real goosebumps moments.
