Beautiful tour through meadows and forests with highlights such as the Erlangen lock, the Dechsendorfer Weiher bathing lake, the Kosbacher Altar and the beer garden in Obermembach.
The tour starts at the Tourist Information Office. From there, the route leads through the train station towards The ground floorPassing the Wöhrmühle, you cross the Regnitz and cycle through the Wiesengrund to Alterlangen. The route leads past the “Long John”, which with its 27 floors is the highest skyscraper in Erlangen, along the Main-Danube Canal to Erlangen LockTraces of a Bronze Age settlement were discovered there in 2019. The trail continues through the forest and past numerous ponds to Dechsendorf. Dechsendorfer Pond is one of the most popular bathing lakes in the area and invites you to take a short dip in the summer. The tour leads through the village center back into the forest and past the Kosbach Altar. Here, in 1913, the Erlangen pastor Dr. Rudolf Herold excavated an Iron Age burial mound (ca. 600-400 BC). The term “Kosbach Altar” was marked by his discovery of a small rectangular stone setting with low pillars at the corners and in the middle. Now we continue south along the Dummetsweiher to Kosbach. In Kosbach, the trail crosses the A3 motorway and continues on a wide gravel path through the forest to Untermembach. Along ponds, it continues via Mittelmembach to Obermembach. Directly at the entrance to the village there is a beautiful beer garden, which is perfect for a break with Franconian food and drinks. The route continues uphill through the forest until the road to Beuteldorf is crossed. From here, cycle paths and roads lead through Haundorf and through the Erlangen districts of Häusling and Büchenbach back to Erlangen. Finally, the tour crosses the Main-Danube Canal once again and leads past the Westbad – an outdoor pool and an indoor pool - across the Wiesengrund back to the train station and the tourist information office.
