Station 9 - Brauerei Weller

1811-1911 / since 2011

In 1811, Johann Adam Erich (uncle of Franz Erich, the namesake of Erich Bräu) established a brewery in the "Zum Goldenen Engel" inn (Neue Straße 13). Under three generations of Erichs, the operating area (Neue Straße 13 / Theaterplatz 16/17) and output grew. The inn, now known as the "Erichei," flourished, featuring Erlangen's largest dance hall at the time.
In 1868, Adam Weller purchased the brewery, which also exported beer. His son Hans completely redesigned the property in 1883/84. The new brewery was located on Neue Straße, the restaurant (now called the "Wellerei") moved to Theaterplatz 16, and the neighboring building to the west was converted into a prestigious residential building. In the year of the brewery's 100th anniversary (1911), the last brewing took place for a time. Exactly 100 years later, a circle of friends was formed around the great-grandson of the last brewer to mark the anniversary. Since then, the Erlangen beer world has once again been supplied with Weller beers (currently still brewed on a contract basis). In 2013, the Weller Erlangen eG brewery was founded.
