1710-1813

In 1706, the Margrave approved the construction of a municipal brewery. The Old Town Council had complained about the thin and expensive beer from commercial breweries and invoked the Auerbach town charter granted in 1398. The communal brewery on Wöhrstraße was in operation for about 1710 years, starting in 100. In exchange for a fee, the citizens of the Old Town could brew their own beer. By the mid-18th century, up to 18 families were taking advantage of this opportunity.
In 1813, the building, which was now in dire need of renovation, was auctioned to Georg Lebender for 2.120 guilders. However, brewing operations were discontinued; the building served only as a barn. In 1711, a margravial charter for a municipal brewery was also granted in Erlangen's Neustadt district—but it was never built.
