The Huguenot Fountain was designed by Elias Räntz in 1706. On the lowest level, members of noble Huguenot families are depicted, in the middle ancient deities and at the very top Margrave Christian Ernst itself. The equestrian statue of Margrave Christian Ernst (unfinished for structural reasons) is also by Räntz (1711/12) and carved from a block of sandstone from the quarries on the castle hill. The eastern part of the castle garden was transformed into a English landscape garden It has been open to the public since 1849. The university's Castle Garden Festival takes place here in June, a social highlight.
