Free Wi-Fi in Erlangen city centre
The Freifunk Wi-Fi network is limited to Erlangen's city center between the City Museum and the Town Hall Square. Use the network freifunk-erlangen.de in public areas, directly where you see the Wi-Fi zone signs. Within the Franconia region, other cities cooperate closely with the Freifunk team. The Wi-Fi at the router locations in Erlangen is available to you as a user free of charge – directly and without complicated login.
Behind the project
Together with the City of Erlangen's eGovernment Center, the Freifunk Initiative Franken, and retail partners, the city management has set up Freifunk Wi-Fi locations for you in Erlangen's city center. The first application was received by the city in June 2015. Today, there are already more than 20 participating partners, and the network is constantly being expanded. In the future, Freifunk Franken, together with the eGovernment Center and the Erlangen Tourism and Marketing Association, plans to expand the network in the area of the town hall, Neustädter Kirche (Neustadt Church), Marktplatz (Market Square), and Martinsbühler Straße.
Freifunk Franken – Free and independent Wi-Fi for everyone
The Freifunk Franken Community is committed to building a free, independent Wi-Fi network in Erlangen. The goal is a self-sufficient, decentralized community network and to provide free Wi-Fi to Erlangen's city center. Freifunk is a participatory network. Therefore, more and more people are participating in the development of Freifunk and providing routers and router locations. More information about the initiative and opportunities for collaboration can be found at www.freifunk-erlangen.de.
