The next generation of cyclists is coming to Franconia. When the Deutschland Tour stops in Erlangen and Nuremberg on August 28 and 29, not only the world's best professionals and amateur athletes will be there. Junior women will also be competing for success. In cooperation with the German Cycling Federation (BDR), the Newcomer Tour will be held over two days for the first time. This gives the riders the opportunity to showcase their talent at two BDR U17 national selection races.
On Saturday (August 28), a 4,8-kilometer circuit is scheduled in Erlangen. The junior women's race will start and finish at the professional finish line on Luitpoldstraße. They will start at 11:45 a.m. and must complete nine laps, covering a total distance of 9 kilometers.
On Sunday (August 29), the junior women will ride 52 kilometers on the short route of the Jedermann Tour. The riders will start ahead of the amateur athletes in Nuremberg and will kick off the cycling Sunday in
The winner is expected at the finish line in front of the Nuremberg Opera House around 11:00 a.m. – the start of the grand finale of the Deutschland Tour.
The expansion to two race days is just the first step in the expansion of the Newcomer Tour, as the race has already established itself as a springboard for young talent in its short history. In 2018, Linda Riedmann won the inaugural Newcomer Tour in Merzig. The 18-year-old is one of the most promising talents among female cyclists and, just a few weeks ago, became German Junior Women's Champion again. At the championships, Linda Riedmann prevailed over Jette Simon – the rider who won the Newcomer Tour in 2019.
Fifty participants are expected for the 2021 Newcomer Tour. The announcement for the trial races is published on the BDR registration portal (www.rad-net.de) – entries for the race are handled by the state associations.
