Is Erlangen a beer city? Many visitors' first thoughts turn to the Erlangen Bergkirchweih (Bergkirchweih), which takes place every year for two weeks over Pentecost on Erlangen's castle hill. The brewery trail takes you over 19 stations along important places in Erlangen's brewery history. Launched in 2005 to mark the 250th anniversary of the Erlangen Bergkirchweih, the trail has been accompanied by new signs since 2014 and, since 2016, QR codes through Erlangen. Former and still existing breweries tell a story as diverse as the history of the city of Erlangen itself.
